Dress Your Truth

Dress Your Truth (DYT) by Carol Tuttle is another example of personality typing that comes from energy profiling.  It seems to be quite popular with some folks on GCM.  Personality typing has already been discussed here.  What is energy profiling?  “Energy Profiling® is based on the scientific principle that the four elements of our DNA create our human nature and our natural expressions.”  For more information, I got this quote from Ms. Tuttle’s website here.  It reminds me of Hippocrates’ bodily humors theory: blood-sanguine (extroverted and social), black bile-melancholic (creative, kind and considerate), yellow bile-choleric (energy, passion and charisma), and phlegm-phlegmatic (dependability, kindness, and affection).

Carol Tuttle’s beliefs are seeping in New Age ideas.  I saw on her website where she has one book that combines energy healing, metaphysics and Christianity.  I haven’t read any of her books, nor do I want to, so I can’t go into great detail, but looking at her website with all the talk of energy, manifesting, chakras and the like is all a Christian should need to know to keep their distance from her.  Ms. Tuttle is Mormon.  I found a Mormon site that had several quotes by Ms. Tuttle.  They are not impressed with her either because they claim she teaches the occult (her “angels” sound like demons masquerading as angels of light)!  Along with her New Age concepts, Christians will also be getting bad theology because Mormons don’t hold to correct theology (Although they use many words that Christians use, their Jesus is not our Jesus.  Their Jesus is Lucifer’s brother but our Jesus is God.  They also believe that all good Mormons can become gods of their own world one day.  Christians know we will be with the Lord forever praising and worshipping Him alone!).  Should Christians be promoting these kinds of ideas?

According to Ms. Tuttle’s website, “These programs show women how to best express their inner beauty in their outward appearance.”  But God’s word says that God looks at the heart not the outward appearance.  God does let us know a bit about how our outward appearance should be…good works and Christ.

…likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.
(1 Timothy 2:9-10 ESV)

Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear—but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.
(1 Peter 3:3-4 ESV Speaking about wives.)

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
(Romans 13:14 ESV)

The website, In Christ Alone, has a great article on being clothed with Christ.

What should the Christian think about beauty?  God has that answer!

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
(Proverbs 31:30 ESV)

Read Isaiah 3:16-24 to find out the outcome of proud women.   All the outward adornments are taken away and well done hair becomes bald, perfume turns to rottenness.  From Carol’s site, “Women who dress their truth love and honor themselves every day, just with what they put on in the morning.”  GCMers don’t make how you dress an idol.  Even our Savior did not have any beauty.

…He had no form or majesty that we should look at Him,
and no beauty that we should desire Him.
(Isaiah 53:2 ESV)

Let our focus be on Christ, not clothes.

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
(Matthew 6:25-33 ESV Emphasis mine)

Can’t sum it up any better than Matthew!

Who We Are In Christ Jesus

INTP? ENFP?  ENTJ?  ESTJ?  What do these abbreviations mean for the Christian?  Nothing.  Those are just a few of the abbreviations from the personality test called  Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). According to people on the site, this is what they use to help know oneself and one another better.  My concerns I see on this site are:

1) It is a distraction from who we are in Christ.  Instead of focusing on a Biblical way to view ourselves and others, they are focused on a man-made way to understand one another better.  See below for a few examples from the Bible of who we are in Christ.

Carl Jung integrated psychology with spirituality

2) Myers-Briggs derives their test from the work of Carl Jung.  Carl Jung is considered New Age.  He is well known for consulting spirit guides, Philemon and Salome.   He is a man who hates Christ but loves demons, aka spirit guides.  We should be running away from teachings that may have their origins from the demonic realm.

3) Would you rather identify yourself as the Bible identifies us (which if you are a Christian you believe that the Bible is the infallible word of God) or from a man with his own theory (something that hasn’t been proven true, but only a proposed explanation), the theory of  psychological type?  If you are choosing the latter, why are you?  Or if you are choosing both, why?

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
(Ephesians 5:6 ESV)

4) Delving into New Age ideas lead to more New Age ideas which keep leading farther from the truth of God’s word (and there is at least one more New Age idea that is very popular on this site).   With having more than 4 million posts -I obviously have not read them all nor has my sister shared that much with me, but from reading a great deal from that site – I can say that the Scriptures are not spoken of as often as you might think on a “Christian” site.   From what I have seen, Scripture is mentioned a lot less than New Age ideas.

Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light.
(Ephesians 5:7-14 ESV)

My encouragement for you GCMers: run from the mysticism of man and run to the word of God.  GCMers encourage one another in the Lord not in the theories of man.

Hosea and Forgiveness

Christians get divorced almost as much or just as much as non-Christians.  I don’t know the recent stats, but they aren’t good.  Christians have decided to go the route of the world in regards to their marriage.  They take what they see as the easy way out: divorce.  They forget to consult God in the matter (and by this I mean not just praying to God and reading His word but actually doing what it says.  The praying and reading are the easy part, but the doing is often detestable to some “Christians”.  They pray and read (they read verses that say God wants to prosper them or give them what they ask for rather than all the verses on marriage and divorce) and then divorce saying they have indeed consulted God in the matter.).  Too often they then find someone else to marry and they spend their lives committing adultery (see Matthew 19:9).

Hosea was a prophet who was actually told to marry an adulterous woman, a prostitute.  He would have had to have been a  patient, loving and compassionate husband.  What a great example of the patience, love and compassion the Lord has for us, we who have forsaken the Lord.  Hosea even had to buy Gomer back from another man as Jesus had to purchase us from sin.

Hosea is a wonderful story of God’s forgiveness.  How many of us would have rushed to Hosea’s side and said, “Have her and her lover put to death! Deuteronomy 22:22 says you can.”  In modern times we would rush to his side and say, “Divorce her for her sexual immorality because Matthew 19:9 says you can!”  How many Christians in bad marriages pity themselves instead of practicing forgiveness the way Christ forgave us?  Do we forget what heinous crimes we have committed against God Almighty and how He paid the price for our sins?   Do we only look at our sacrifice of staying married to an unfaithful spouse instead of looking to Jesus who sacrificed Himself on the cross for our transgressions?

Ephesians 5 tells us that husbands and wives become one.  This union refers to Christ and the church.  If you are getting a divorce because you are unhappy, remember Ephesians 5.  We can get a divorce for sexual immorality, but before we rush to divorce, let us remember Christ’s patience with us sinners.

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.  (Ephesians 5:31-32 ESV)

Love your husband!  Love your wife!  And may God be glorified!!
